MEGAN MOSES

Writing and speaking honestly about addiction

About this site

Why this site exists

Most public writing about addiction falls into one of two camps: clinical and distant, or recovery-positive to the point of being dishonest. Both erase the real complexity of the experience.

This site exists to make space for something more honest — writing that doesn't flinch from how hard it is, that doesn't tie everything up with a bow, and that treats readers as intelligent adults who can handle the truth.

It grew from years of Megan being asked the same question in different rooms: "Where can I find something that's actually honest about this?" This is an attempt at an answer.

Who it's for

This site is for anyone who has been touched by addiction — directly or indirectly. That includes:

  • People in active use or in recovery
  • Families and friends who love someone with addiction
  • Clinicians and healthcare workers who want the consumer perspective
  • Policy-makers and researchers who need honest lived-experience input
  • Anyone who is just trying to understand

The tone is calibrated to work for someone in crisis and for a policy researcher in the same breath. That's intentional — because addiction doesn't sort people neatly into categories.

What you won't find here

These are commitments, not aspirations. If any of them ever slip, Megan wants to hear about it.

  • No wellness-blog framing

Recovery is not a journey toward optimal selfhood. The language of wellness flattens the real stakes. You won't find it here.

  • No false resolution

Stories don't always end well. Writing that insists on redemption arcs does a disservice to everyone who hasn't had one yet.

  • No clinical distance

This site is not a health information service. It's personal, situated, first-person. Always.

  • No advertisements

No ads, ever. No sponsored content, no affiliate links, no wellness product placements.

  • No pop-ups or engagement traps

No overlay newsletter sign-ups, no exit-intent modals, nothing that interrupts the reading experience.

  • No stock photography

All images are either Megan's own or original illustrations. Silhouettes-on-cliffs not welcome.
